Dr. Phil Good was a featured speaker at this year’s Georgia Veterinary Medical Association annual conference, presenting on the intersection of private practice and nonprofit animal rescue. His talk, “Building Bridges: How Veterinary Practices Can Partner with Rescue Organizations,” drew a packed audience of practitioners and students.
During the presentation, Dr. Good shared the operational model he developed at Beyond Pets Animal Hospital, where rescue cases from the Homeless Pets Foundation are seamlessly integrated into the practice’s workflow. “It doesn’t have to be a financial burden,” he told attendees. “When you structure it right, rescue partnerships actually strengthen your practice — your team stays mission-driven and your community sees you as more than just a business.”
The talk covered practical topics including tax considerations for pro-bono veterinary work, volunteer coordination, foster network management, and leveraging social media to drive adoption visibility. Several attendees followed up with Dr. Good afterward to discuss implementing similar programs at their own clinics.
Dr. Good has been an active voice in Georgia’s veterinary community for years, advocating for stronger collaboration between private practices, shelters, and rescue organizations. He plans to publish an expanded version of his conference talk as a guide for other veterinarians interested in starting rescue partnerships.
